Birth Debriefing
We as humans are storytellers. We seek affirmation of identity, purpose and meaning through story. We use narrative to make sense of our life experiences.
With this in mind, I offer you a safe holding, trauma informed container for you to share your story following birth. Birth debriefing is a supportive tool for birthing people to process, grieve, honour and integrate a birthing experience.
Together, we will gently explore your story to reveal what you learned about yourself, the parts that you may have found difficult, and what messages and themes lie within your story.
Birthing can be the most life-altering experience and sometimes, a traumatic one. A birth can lift us into another level of consciousness. It can prompt us to feel more and to look more deeply inward. Giving birth (in the myriad of ways) can act as a magnifying glass, a “shadow awakening,” an invitation to look more deeply to make its teachings known.
A birth debriefing can support anyone who has birthed. Everyone experiences childbirth in their own unique way, and everyone’s story matters.
-
During your birth debrief, I will gently invite you to use your hands and interact with art materials. Making art during your session will pause the neocortex and allow your brain to favour the creative, intuitive mind.
Here, you will arrive in the theta brain state, accessing deeper beliefs, insights and meaning. The theta state is where our subconscious lives, so being able to access this while sharing your birth story can be potent and further support healing.
-
The session itself is 2 hours. You may feel a closing once the session is over, however, you may find you need subsequent sessions to process and integrate your story.
-
Each session is person centred and unique, however an outline might look like this:
