Birth Trauma and PTSD

1:1 sessions in person or online

I am here to help you navigate the complex inchoate emotions related to your birth safely. Birthing can be the most life-altering experience and sometimes, a traumatic one.

Up to 1 in 3 birthing people experience the birth of their child as traumatic. Trauma can result from your experience of labour, or how you feel emotionally after birth. You may have hoped for one experience and are left in shock, disbelief or disappointed. You may be experiencing feelings of failure, like you are stuck, reliving the experience in your mind, or experiencing flashbacks.

A birth can lift us into another level of consciousness. It can prompt us to feel more and to look more deeply inward. Giving birth (in the myriad of ways) can act as a magnifying glass, a “shadow awakening,” an invitation to look more deeply to make its teachings known. When arriving at your art therapy session, you will be cocooned in gentle heart centred care, so you feel safe enough to express yourself and process as slowly as needed.

I will further support you to embed the art making process into your life in an ongoing way to provide a means to meaning making, stress relief and all that arises after your birth.
